A big question I have is why does Tom always have to make the plan much more complicated than it has to be? For example, Huck insists on sawing a hole in the hut Jim is being held in and that would take a matter of minutes. However, Tom has the idea to dig a hole under the shed that would take a week to do. Also, why do these slaves believe so much in witches? When Huck and Tom first went to see Jim with Nat and Jim cried out to Huck and Tom the keeper actually believed Tom when he said that no one cried out. Like what really makes the slaves believe in witches that much? Have they all had traumatic witch experiences as children or something?
Something I really took away from this is that Sally and Silas are pretty dumb. Something must be missing in those brains of theirs if they can't tell that Huck and Tom aren't family to them. I mean come on, they're pretending to be brothers but they look nothing alike. Yeah that's not obvious at all. Also, Silas really thought the horse was super fast when Huck "went to town" to get his luggage. A man would know the ability of his horse and wouldn't believe that Huck made it go so fast.
Something I liked about these chapters is that Tom is actually helping Huck. For once they're doing something that Huck wants to do instead of something Tom wants to do. However, I don't like the fact that Tom bosses Huck around so much. Huck's ideas are so much simpler and so much more efficient. In the type of situation they're in, they should be taking the easy way.
