I have a few questions about the book so far. First of all, how did this kid become so mischievous? He's only about 10 years old and he's done more bad stuff in his life than I've ever done. Also, why does he smoke a pipe when he's so young? I understand things were different back then but he's just a kid, he shouldn't be doing that. My last question is, why doesn't he like dressing in nice clothes and sleeping inside? I mean I understand that he's just gonna get the clothes dirty anyway, but the sleeping inside thing really confuses me. I would much rather sleep in a warm bed than the hard ground, but that's just me.
The biggest take away I have so far is that Huck had a rough life with his father. I know that "pap" beat him and is a sloppy drunk, so obviously that has something to do with Huck always acting up. Also, I take it that Huck's mother either died when he was very young, or just left Huck with his father. I think this because if Huck's mother was around I think he would be a better behaved child. Also, he probably acts up a lot because he doesn't have a mother in his life to care for him.
The thing I like the most about this book so far is the fact that Huck is so rebellious. I think it would be awesome to have that much freedom at such an early life because it's his life so he should be able to do whatever he wants. However, the thing I dislike about this book so far is how often Mark Twain uses the term "nigger." Even though it was acceptable to say back then he could have found a better alternative.
